PREMA Racing started the 2021 FIA Formula 3 Championship with the right foot at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. Making his debut with the team at the Spanish venue, Norwegian Dennis Hauger took a spectacular pole position in qualifying and will start Sunday’s main race from P1. While this means he will have to sit in P12 at the start of race 1 due to the reverse grid, Hauger showed plenty of potential which will surely help him to make a swift recovery and he also secured four bonus points in the process.

Not too far off from the front row in terms of laptime, British racer Olli Caldwell brought home a valuable sixth place which will give him good chances for points in all races.

Making his debut in the series, Monegasque racer Arthur Leclerc had to deal with the ins and outs of FIA F3 qualifying for the first time, managing traffic and climbing his learning curve. While his laptime was only about 6 tenths off pole, he had to settle for P15.

“Overall it was quite a good qualifying performance. The first run got a bit compromised by traffic and then I just went back to rhythm with the second set of tyres, getting a decent lap in. The last run felt really good. I had a bit of traffic in the final sector which prevented me from being as clean as I wanted, but overall I’m really happy and it’s a great start to the season.”

“It has been a difficult session. The first run was quite good with the new tyres. However, in qualifying, you’re not doing the lap in the beginning but at the end. In my two last runs, I made a mistake and caught traffic. For sure we have some potential, but I didn’t maximize it today.”

“Top-6 in qualifying is not something to be overly disappointed about, it’s a good position, starting in the points for the races, especially with the reverse grid that gives you the opportunity to get some good points. Qualifying is so close that any small mistake can make a big difference. It’s only two tenths from P6 to P1. I made some mistakes, that’s what I need to learn for the next one.”
