Prema ORLEN Team springs back into action at Spa-Francorchamps
Prema ORLEN Team is set to jump back into action this weekend. The Italian squad will line-up for the second round of FIA WEC, the 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps, as the legendary venue hosts the championship's return on European soil. The Belgian event will also be pivotal in terms of preparation for the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
Coming from a fourth place in its endurance racing debut at the 1000 Miles of Sebring, Prema ORLEN Team will be back with the trio of Robert Kubica, Louis Delétraz and Lorenzo Colombo. Both Colombo and Delétraz achieved recent success as they both victory with the team in the ELMS opener at Paul Ricard. In addition, Delétraz has landed straight from Laguna Seca, where he won the latest IMSA race in California. With Kubica as its pillar, the team is now looking forward to building and improving on its overseas LMP2 experience.
Only a few tracks around the world have the same history and appeal of Spa-Francorchamps. Having hosted Formula 1 and Endurance for decades, the 7-kilometer layout is steeped in motorsport, but was recently revised to allow for higher safety margins, especially on its fastest, most challenging and most iconic part, the Eau Rouge-Radillon complex.
The 6-hour race will be held on Saturday, with Practice 1 kicking-off the event on Thursday. As always happen, the weather is expected to be a key variable, and although forecasts predict generably favourable conditions, rain drops can arrive at any time.
Rene Rosin - Team Principal
"The 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps is an incredibly important event for us. It's our return to the world stage after our Sebring debut, with a lot learned and a lot still to learn especially if we consider that the following event will be the 24 Hours of Le Mans. We can think of Spa as a rehearsal, but on the other hand, we still have a lot of work to do to prepare ourselves to such a monumental effort only weeks after our debut."
