After announcing the team's entry for the 66th Macau Grand Prix in November, PREMA Racing is also about to start its 2020 preparations. Coming from an extremely successful season, the team is bracing for a three-day collective test at Valencia with a high-quality pool of drivers.
On the first day, Sunday, October 20th, the PREMA Racing cars will be driven by Enaam Ahmed, Oscar Piastri and Logan Sargeant. A 19-year-old Brit, Ahmed is currently third in the Japanese Formula 3 Championship and is a former British F3 champion. Joining him will be Australian 18-year-old racer Piastri, who currently sits at the top of the Formula Renault Eurocup standings, and by 18-year-old American Sargeant, who aims for a major breakthrough in his second year in F3 competition.
Flying straight from the final round of the Formula Regional European Championship at Monza, Frederik Vesti and Enzo Fittipaldi will join Piastri on Monday, October 21st, for the second day of running. This season, the 17-year-old Dane was crowned Champion in the European series with three races to go, while the 18-year-old Brazilian, who is currently second in points, has won the 2018 Italian Formula 4 Championship.
On the final day, Tuesday, October 22nd, Vesti and Fittipaldi will be back behind the wheel, with Sargeant returning for a second day with the Team.
Here’s what the drivers said about the coming test opportunity:
“I’m looking forward to be driving the new FIA F3 car. I’ve never driven it so I’m curious to see how it feels especially as I’m going to be driving the best car with Prema. I’m looking forward to testing with them as I’ve never done so in the past so it will be something interesting for me and I’d like to see where it takes me.”
"I’m really excited. It’s a new car, the International Formula 3 one, which is faster and with a lot more horsepower than the car I drive now with around 400 horsepower. I’m definitely looking forward to learning as much as possible and working with Prema. This test is a great opportunity for me and I’m really happy."
“I am excited to be driving with Prema Racing next week. After testing in the GP3 Series last year I am looking forward to seeing how this year’s FIA Formula 3 car compares to the experience. The team has a great history and you can see that it has a winning mentality, so I cannot wait to spend a few days with them. In addition, the FIA Formula 3 Championship is a fantastic series full of the best teams and drivers around, so it would be a logical destination for next year.”
“After learning a lot this year in FIA F3, I am super excited to have the opportunity of testing in Valencia with Prema! After an extremely strong year for them, I am looking forward to working with them and seeing the progression we can make at the test.”
“I’m very happy to test the FIA Formula 3 Championship car for the first time at Valencia. With Prema it has been a really successful first season and I hope this could be the first step to carry our relationship into the next year. The goal is to learn as much as I can about the car and tires, and hopefully to be fast as well!”
