The PREMA Racing Formula 2 operation experienced a tough race 1 at Monza, as the fast home venue for the Italian squad handed them only a P9 points finish. Sean Gelael, who was starting on option tires, put up an aggressive run, fighting back to the 6th place after his pit-stop. The Indonesian eventually ended 9th as late tire degradation forced him to slow the pace in the final laps. Anyway, he brought home two valuable points making his way back to the top-10 of a feature race.
On the other hand, Mick Schumacher had his run jeopardized by a technical issue. After a tough start, he sliced his way through the field and while his strategy was looking good for the second half of the race, he had to come back to the pit-lane which cost him several laps. Once the issue was solved, he came back to the track and posted the fastest lap of the race, showcasing his pace on Italian soil.

“Obviously this race is a huge disappointment for us, since I feel today we were beaten by bad luck. Pace and strategy were looking good, everything seemed to unfold according to our plan but then a failure of a mechanical part inside the engine caused us to stop, so we lost our position and chance for even a podium. We can now only try to make the best out of that situation tomorrow.”
# 10 - Sean Gelael
"If the race ended five laps earlier, it would have been a good race because the pace was quite good. The start was difficult. I think Mick got squeezed by the car on the inside and had to take avoiding action... the first three laps were a bit of a mess, but then we hung in there, following the other guys doing the undercut. We had a slightly slower pit-stop but it happens, and then we also got slowed down by another car as we left the pits. We lost a lot and we were behind Sato. We caught up though, and we were sixth with five laps to go and had a 9-second gap. Then we experienced massive degradation. We hit the cliff and rapidly fell so sadly we were only able to finish P9, one position out of P1 on the reverse grid for race 2. It could be better, it could be worse."
