PREMA Powerteam secured two more wins and a good amount of silverware again at Red Bull Ring in the fourth round of the European Formula Regional Championship. Coming from a perfect weekend seven days ago at the Hungaroring, the Italian squad continued to be the leading force of the series starting from qualifying when Frederic Vesti posted three pole positions. The 17-year-old Danish racer then went on to two dominant wins in race 1 and 2, consolidating his lead in the driver championship. In race 3, Vesti ended up in third after a sensational three-way battle for the win that also involved his teammate Enzo Fittipaldi.
The Brazilian maximized the results of the opening two races after two tough qualifying sessions. In race 1 and 2, he cruised to two top-5 finishes, while in race 3 he got the nod on Vesti for second place in spectacular fashion during the final lap, capping a great and fair battle. On the other hand, British racer Olli Caldwell was forced to deal with more issues than expected and lost the chance to score a potential podium position in race 2 due to a gearbox problem. Caldwell will definitely be among the men to watch at Imola in the next round of the series scheduled after the August summer break.
# 2 - Frederik Vesti
“I’m very happy with the three poles we scored again, and the two wins and a third place are very very good for the championship. I’m delighted, the car felt great for the whole weekend. In race 3 I had to deal with a bit of understeer, I was in second place on the last lap. I tried to move on the leader who pushed me a little wide, and eventually, I lost the position to Enzo. We finished P3, but we still got a lot of points so it’s all good.”
# 64 - Olli Caldwell
“There are not many positives to take away from this weekend. It has been tough and we had a few problems we’re still not quite sure about. The team is investigating them so I’m sure they are going to be fixed by the next race. Unfortunately, I had a gearbox failure in race 2 which was my best chance of a win. Tough weekend, but there are more to come and I can still get back up in the championship. I’m really looking forward to Imola as it’s a track I know well. I like it a lot and I think we’ll be pretty fast there.”
# 74 - Enzo Fittipaldi
“I think we struggled a bit, even on my side, especially in qualifying. We have to work to put the lap and everything else together. On the other hand, Frederik did a really good job in qualifying. The car was great for the whole weekend. I was a little unlucky with some situations but we were fighting for the lead in almost all three races. It’s been a lot of positives, and a lot of downs, but overall also a lot of fun. It’s racing and we keep focusing towards the next race weekend which will be at Imola. I love that track and I’m very fast there, so I’m looking forward to getting back to the top step of the podium.”
