Race 1 of the FIA Formula 2 Championship at Silverstone turned out once again to be a tough one for PREMA Racing. Lining-up with just one car following the withdrawal of Sean Gelael, the Italian squad relied on Mick Schumacher, but the young German was hit from behind in lap 1 and had to fight back from the rear of the field.
Schumacher put up his best effort thanks to a strategy featuring an early pit-stop, he made the most out of his tires to fight back to the 11th position after fighting for the top-10 until the latest stages. Keeping the same consistency and a straight head, he now looks forward to making more progress in tomorrow's sprint race.
# 9 - Mick Schumacher
“My race today was compromised quite a lot unfortunately, and therefore we can be quite happy with where we ended. My start was ok but in turn 3 I was hit and consequently fell back to last place. We managed to recover from there to P11 mainly via strategy since we decided to pit as early as possible which proved to be the right decision. It is pretty hard to overtake in Silverstone, so from there was not really much to gain. Not easy but we keep fighting; tomorrow is a new day and we give it all.”
