PREMA Racing ended the opening weekend of the brand-new FIA Formula 3 Championship in great style at Circuit De Catalunya.

After winning race 1 with Russian Robert Shwartzman, it was time for Indian Jehan Daruvala, the latest addition to the team, to score a triumphant success on Spanish soil. Starting from the front row of the grid, Daruvala gained the lead with a smooth start and never looked back despite two safety car situations.

On the other hand, Shwartzman was no less impressive as he charged through the field starting in P8 of the reverse grid. Fighting back to P4, he even had a late chance to chase the podium but fourth place was enough to maintain the championship lead.

New Zealand's Marcus Armstrong secured a top-5 finish after staying in contention for the podium for most of the day and is well positioned in the driver championship where he is now P3.

"We had a really good start and a good launch.  I went outside a couple of people in turn one which was pretty cool. The pace was quite okay but we just had a bad timing with the first safety car, it would have been a different race if I just got past Fewtrell before it. Also, we were pushing hard behing other drivers and in the end that wasn't good for the rear tires. Anyway it was good experience and good points for the championship."

"After yesterday's struggles to get off the line we worked together last night and found a solution and it worked, the start was good. During the race I was, let's say, in control, except for the first restart when I didn't surprise the guy behind enough so I had to defend. After that I was just managing the pace to P2 and as the car was good I did not overdrive it, although if I needed more I could have pushed in the final laps. I'm very happy and the team did a great job. Scoring two wins in the first weekend of the series is excellent!"

"The start hasn't been bad but in the first three corners I found myself in the wrong place and I barely hanged on to P8. I passed Beckman after a good re-start from the safety car, but then we were in a pack and everyone had DRS so it was not easy to attack. Then we got the second safety-car and another re-start. I passed Lungaard with a good outside move in turn 1. I got by Fewtrell too but Vips had a pretty good pace, similar to mine. He passed Marcus, as I did with DRS a couple of laps later, but at that time the race was almost over even though we were faster than Kari. With one lap more, I'm sure we would have gone to P3. It has been a great weekend, we had the pace and stayed in the top-5 all the time. Let's carry the pace to Paul Ricard and make it go as good as here or even better!"
