In a commanding late race performance, Dutchman Nyck De Vries delivered his second win of the the 2018 FIA Formula 2 Season at Hungaroring, driving PERTAMINA PREMA Theodore Racing to their first win of the year in a feature race. Knowing that his car would have come alive with a dry track, De Vries stayed out of trouble in the early part of his run, with the track still damp. Then, after pitting for slick tires, he made the most out of his set-up, storming back to the lead and ending up with a 16.5-second advantage over his closest competitor.
De Vries also gained valuable ground in terms of the championship, in a series that provided many surprises so far this season.
Sean Gelael rebounded from a tough qualifying day at the Magyar track. After starting from P18 and being spun out in the early stages, the Indonesian driver improved his position and eventually crossed the line in P13 showing great pace.

“It was a better day compared to yesterday. We had a good start and the pace in the wet was relatively OK, but we knew it was going to dry so we tried to focus a little bit on dry conditions. We were going up the field, but then another driver whom I just overtook spun me over, and we had to play catchup again. Then we went to slicks, and in the 50/50 conditions the pace was really good. Sadly, I was too far from the group in front and a points finish was out of reach. Hopefully with the same pace we will make it tomorrow.”

“What a race! Honestly, I’m just very very happy that we managed to come back to the top step of the podium after two very difficult weekends. To do it in a race like today’s makes me even more proud of all of us. It was very tough at the start on the wet. We struggled a lot to hold on because we were a little bit more focused on dry conditions. Nevertheless, we managed to stay on track and not lose out too much. Then on the dry, the pace was just amazing. As soon as I took the lead I started saving for the end so I could go for the fastest lap and we took that as well. I’m very very pleased with how it went today.”
