It is finally go-time for the 2021 Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine (FRECA) at Imola. PREMA Powerteam will enter three cars into the new era of the series and will start the year by supporting Formula 1 at the Italian venue.

Steeped in motorsport history since its opening in the early fifties, the 4.9-kilometre track is an ultimate challenge for teams and drivers, although it already welcomed FRECA for a two-day test session to help them gain the needed chemistry. With some running already under their belts, the drivers will face a two-race weekend with two separate qualifying sessions determining the starting grids for Saturday and Sunday.

PREMA Powerteam will consist of two second-year drivers in the Formula Regional platform and a rookie moving up from F4 Competition. Coming from a full season in the Renault Eurocup series, Paul Aron has shown promise in 2020 and will return to the base after making his single-seater debut with PREMA in 2019. The 17-year-old Estonian is part of the Mercedes-AMG Junior Driver program.

Spaniard David Vidales is moving to the team after being a major sensation in the 2020 Eurocup Renault season with two wins at his car racing debut. An 18-year-old from Léon, he finished sixth in the 2020 series.

Supported by the Ferrari Driver Academy, 17-year-old Swede Dino Beganovic is making the step up from F4 where he finished third in 2020.

Rene Rosin - Team Principal

"We look forward to the beginning of the new Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine season. We expect the series to be extremely competitive from the start, but our drivers performed diligently in pre-season testing so we can be positive ahead of the season opener. It is always challenging to experience change, but we always believed in the Formula Regional concept, and we are excited to take part in its new chapter. Hopefully, we will stay competitive and help our drivers to turn this season into a step in their professional careers."
