Back to victory! Lining-up for Sunday’s sprint race in the 5th round of the FIA Formula 2 Championship PERTAMINA PREMA Theodore Racing was finally able to secure its first win of the season on the previously unraced Circuit Paul Ricard in France. Starting from the second row on the grid, 23-year-old Dutchman Nyck De Vries got a really good jump but remained patient for the first part of the race. After managing his tires well, De Vries went to the attack and was able to move from P3 to P1 to eventually take home victory. With today’s result, De Vries fought back to the third place in overall standings, enough to rejoin the top contenders for the title and look forward with confidence to the upcoming rounds, scheduled in the next two weekends. Unfortunately, Sean Gelael was put out of contention by electronic issues. The Indonesian started from the back due to yesterday’s spin, but put up once again an impressive pace. After losing power due to an electronic issue, he had to serve an unscheduled pit-stop.

“It’s a bit of a shame. I think we had the pace because Albon and Norris, in the end, could race back to the points. We had a good start even if we were pushed a little bit wide by Lando. Then we seemed to lose power, especially in fourth gear. I went back to the pits, we think it was something electronic. It happens but it’s just a shame that a lot of the cars are having issues. It’s a pity but it’s racing and hopefully, we can get more… detailed and better in our execution.”
# 4 - Nyck De Vries
“I’m very very happy for this result and it’s a great relief. I think we deserved this win more than anybody else after some difficult times. The pace was our main drive forward. As long as you have the pace, things will always turn around at some point and we were already very unfortunate in qualy earlier this weekend when we got a technical issue while setting a really fast lap. Yesterday we just stayed on track to get the points and today we were patient and managed our tires to get our first win of the season. We also scored the fastest lap again so more great points.”
