PREMA Theodore Racing and its pair of brilliant rookies put up a great show today at Norisring, as the famed German street course hosted race 1 and qualifying 2 of the FIA Formula 3 Championship. Starting from pole in race 1, 17-year-old Kiwi Marcus Armstrong performed without a hitch to secure his maiden win in the series, retaining P1 at the start and then pulling away as the race progressed to cross the line in front of fellow team-mate Ralf Aron. The Estonian captured his third podium finish of 2018. To cap it off in an even more impressive fashion, Armstrong proceeded to take pole for race 3. Qualifying 2 handed Prema another amazing first time. Russian Robert Shwartzman scored his maiden Formula 3 pole position by topping the group charts for race 2. Also in race 1, Mick Schumacher scored a top-5 finish, recovering from P7, while after starting from P9, Shwartzman capitalized on a good opening lap to score 6th. After facing a tough qualifying session yesterday, Chinese racer Guanyu Zhou fought back to a points finish in P9, before ending up P6 and P2 of his group in qualifying 2.

“Race 1 was OK as we got a points finish after the tough qualifying yesterday. There wasn’t much I could do to fight back, as I also lacked a little bit of speed, but in general everything felt well. Qualifying 2 was a really close one. I was fighting for P2 but we struggled a bit when some rain drops arrived, which was also unlucky because the previous group didn’t have any rain. The positive thing is that I put together two good laps so I will be starting from the second row in race 3.”

"In race 1 we put together a good recovery after yesterday's unfortunate penalty, and we managed to get a top-5 finish out of P7 at the start. We scored valuable points at the end of a fast-paced race. Then qualifying 2 didn't go as we expected. Tomorrow we will try to do our best to fight back and take more points.”

# 7 - Ralf Aron

“My start was really good, but Marcus’s was mega as well. I then had to be careful in the first corner to avoid getting involved in a collision. I saw a cloud of smoke in the mirror so I didn’t make the corner and a car went straight by. I’m happy I could avoid that. At the beginning the pace wasn’t great but I managed the pressure well and brought second place home.”

“Race 1 has been almost perfect. In the past few races I have had a little bit of bad luck, and the best way to eliminate bad luck is to start from pole and pull away. We did a perfect job as a team today. I did a lot of simulator work before the race and that definitely paid off, plus Prema don’t leave any detail to spare.”

# 10 - Robert Shwartzman

“We achieved the maximum we could today, it went pretty well. I put together a great lap which handed me my first Formula 3 pole. I’m just a tiny bit disappointed for the second fastest lap in qualifying which wasn’t perfect but that’s racing. The team did a really good job as I had much more confidence in the car especially under braking.”
