The coming weekend is set to be a charming one for PERTAMINA PREMA Theodore Racing at Monte Carlo. With action-packed racing and the fast-paced glamour typical of the venue, the fourth round of the FIA Formula 2 Championship will provide again an outstanding frame but also a particularly tricky environment for teams and drivers. The tight street course, which is shared with the Formula 1 Grand Prix of Monaco, brings many challenges, from the walls and guard-rails which run close to the track with almost or no runoff areas, to the traffic and lack of passing opportunities. As the circuit is only available on the race weekend, there is also limited previous data and drivers will have to give their 100 percent right from qualifying to tame the series' new 2018 car.
Nyck De Vries has fond memories of Monte Carlo. The 23-year-old Dutchman secured his first series win there last season and, coming from two second-place finishes in the last couple of rounds, he aims to break the drought and win in the Principality. Having also delivered some impressive performances in the previous rounds with great points finishes and comebacks, 21-year-old Indonesian Sean Gelael is looking forward to nailing a perfect weekend from its earliest stages.
It must be noted that, due to the particular circumstances surrounding the Grand Prix of Monaco, all the track activity will be scheduled one day earlier than usual beginning with practice and qualifying on Thursday.
René Rosin - Team Principal
“It’s amazing to be back to the Monaco GP weekend. This race has its own logistics and competition challenges to overcome, but being able to race in alongside F1 in Monte Carlo is absolutely amazing and rewarding. This track hasn’t been exactly kind to us in recent past, but as usual, we are motivated to do our 100 percent and reverse our previous fortunes with hard work and dedication. Nyck has already won here, so there’s no doubt he can do it all again, while Sean can round his season start out with top-notch results by performing well since the start.”
